Sermon on the Mount: Introduction

Well, I've decided to do a blog series over the Sermon on the Mount. So basically, this is going to take a while. But I have a whole lack-luster summer to do it! So let's get this thing started.

First off, I'll give a little personal to the whole thing!

I noticed this past semester that I spend all my Word studying time in the letters like Ephesians and James and such. Which are great books to study! Full of really good doctrine and truth from some really brilliant, spirit-filled men of God. But how come I never study the words from the MAN of God?

One reason I haven't studied the gospels is because it's very intimidating!

For the most part, without reading Jesus' interpretation, commentaries, or remembering a past sermon, I hardly ever actually understand Jesus' parables! They're kinda tough. There's a lot of conversations between Jesus and the pharisees that I just can't keep up with.

Also, I feel like I've already heard all the stories of Jesus miracles and stuff and there's nothing more I could learn from them!

That's a load of bull. I don't even have to go into that.

But my biggest reason for not studying the gospels? It's insanely convicting!

For years, I've somewhat taken the words of Christ and softened them a bit so that I don't have to change my lifestyle too much. But lately I've been challenged to read through the gospels and take them a bit more seriously. A lot more seriously actually. I need to realize that Jesus wasn't just talking to the people in His day or just His disciples, but He knew that the Word of God would never fade and that I would be reading it someday! So every word He said, every miracle He performed, and every drop of blood He lost, He did it all for me! Praise God!

So my goal is to post a blog about every topic mentioned in the entire Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 5-7. But ultimately, my goal for doing this blog at all is so that you and I can learn more about how Jesus taught us to live out our lives and just how serious He was about it all.

My prayer is that we would take His words seriously and that the Holy Spirit would convict us of how much we like to soften the load of God's call on our lives.  But also that you would be lead by the Spirit to chime in! This doesn't need to be me ranting and writing out long-winded discussions for the internet to soak up. I want to learn what the Holy Spirit teaches you when you read the passage.

Hope you like muh blog!

Thanks and Gig 'em!
